Kebede Wako and his family have been cultivating coffee in Chelbesa, Gedeb, since 2000. Known for producing some of the finest coffees in the region, Chelbesa's reputation continues to rise. Kebede grows a blend of heirloom Ethiopian varieties, including Kurume and Wolisho, alongside JARC selections such as 74110 and 74112. During the harvest season, the Wakos and seasonl pickers harvest coffee by hand at its optimal ripeness. The cherries are then laid on 130 drying beds for 15-21 days and are persistently tended to ensuring even drying.
Kebede has a perpetual improvement mentality, focused on driving the quality of his coffee, which he hopes to transition the future of the farm to his children. In 2018, Kebede and his family earned their export license, allowing them to deliver exceptional coffee to international buyers. In partnership with our supply chain partner, Trabocca, this Operation Cherry Red lot is a showcase of Kebede's dedication and the connectivity between producer and roaster! As part of our efforts to build long-term relationships that are impactful, transparent, and traceable throughout the coffee supply chain, Operation Cherry Red has become an important program to Roseline Coffee.
