At 1800-1900 meters above sea level, high up in the Luya district of Amazonas is a densely forested region growing some truly exceptional coffee. The Ocumal cooperative is not only committed to improving coffee quality in the region, but also accessing financially sustainable markets to help the community thrive. There are 150 members of the cooperative, including Wilmer Barrientos, which offers dynamic support to it’s partners including training on harvest and post-harvest practices, organic farming techniques and marketing strategies. The farmers grow a wide range of coffee plants, including rust-resistant varieties that were introduced to the area in 2014.
This lot is a blend of Catuai and Pache, fully washed and dried on raised beds, and we're experiencing round and delicate flavors like tamarind, honey and almond. Through Red Fox, we feel fortunate to bring in coffee from this cooperative for the first time (and likely not the last), as Wilmer’s coffee is nothing short of delicious.
