We’re excited to bring in a new offering from the State of Veracruz, Mexico. Veracruz is an origin unique in several ways. Instead of buying and selling parchment, these producers buy and sell cherry then the coffee is processed centrally at local mills. Jose Cienfuegos' coffee was processed at Ernesto Perez’s Finca Fatima which operates both as a farm and a mill.
Despite being grown at a relatively low elevation the coffee produced in this part of Veracruz pushes the northern edge of the tropics and the higher latitudes can mimic conditions only found at high elevation farms in Peru and Colombia. The relatively wet weather and cool nights slow down cherry ripening which creates an incredible density of flavor. Joe Cienfuegos' coffee is the perfect example of this, bursting with a ripe fruity sweetness that reminds us of poached pears paired with perfectly cooked toffee.
